The Management Liability Insurance Specialist (MLIS) program is a continuing education (CE) curriculum that provides an excellent base level of knowledge of professional liability insurance fundamentals and an in-depth understanding of management liability exposures and insurance coverage (sometimes called "executive liability insurance"). The program focuses on elements common to all types of professional and management liability insurance, such as claims-made coverage triggers, and then addresses the specifics of directors and officers liability, employment practices liability, and fiduciary liability exposures and insurance. Those who complete the three prerequisite professional liability courses receive a “Fundamentals of Professional Liability Insurance” certificate suitable for framing. Those who then complete the four management liability courses earn the MLIS certification. The MLIS certification mark may then be displayed behind your name to declare your knowledge of management liability as well as your dedication to professionalism. MLIS courses are approved for insurance agent or broker CE credit in most states.

It is easy to enroll in the MLIS program. Just go to the Course Catalog, select the course(s) you wish to take, and proceed to checkout. The seven-part core curriculum is presented in two sets of courses. The first set covers the fundamentals of professional and management liability and insurance, and the fundamentals courses must be completed before you may purchase the four management liability courses.
At checkout, you'll be asked to provide basic contact information about yourself, register your credit card for payment of the course fees, and agree to receive communications about the program and your certification from us via e-mail. MLIS is offered in conjunction with the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA), the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc.® (RIMS), and the National Association of Insurance Women (NAIW). MLIS Courses for Reaccreditation
Have you already earned the MLIS designation? In addition to the core courses, the MLIS Learning Center will offer other management liability risk and insurance courses designed to increase your expertise. These courses will be added to the "Reaccreditation" tab as they are developed. In most cases one of these courses is all you need to satisfy the 3-hour CE requirement to maintain your designation and most also qualify for insurance CE if you need it. You may also satisfy the requirement by attending an approved program.
Obtain Reaccreditation for Attending an Approved Program
Another option for renewing your designation is to attend or participate in other approved webinars, conferences, seminars, or educational programs (see a list of approved programs). Once you have attended an approved program, you must notify us by providing the Completer Code from the Certificate of Completion that the program provider gives you and pay the registration fee. Notify us of your attendance at an approved program by clicking on the following link.
